Acting Manager, Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL)
Camille is an Eastern Arrernte woman who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide, South Australia. She spent 4 years working as a Native Title lawyer at the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement in South Australia, before returning to the University of Adelaide to work as a lecturer in the Aboriginal Access Program, Wildu Yarlu for 10 years.
Camille is the acting Manager of the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL). She provides leadership, co-teaches Arrernte courses, and works on a range of Arrernte language projects including Angkentye Yerrtye-ileme (bringing back the right names), Arritnye Arne-kenhe Aparlpe-irretye Project (recording and making resources for language about plants) and Arne Ingkerreke Apurtelhe-ileme (Gathering all things together). Camille is committed to supporting opportunities for Arrernte communities to have access to and lead culturally integrated and responsive services that are safe, inclusive and focus on wellbeing.
Camille’s interests include future-proofing the Arrernte language, through awareness raising and language advocacy. To this end, Camille is volunteering to support the building of a Language and Cultural Centre at the community of Ltyentye Apurte (formerly known as Santa Teresa). Camille is also interested in how climate change is impacting the Arrernte Language and culture.
