Project Linguist / Lecturer (Central Australia), Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL)
Dr. Emma Browne is a linguist, educator, and researcher based in Central Australia. She has worked closely with Warlpiri, Arrernte, Anmatyerr and other communities across the Northern Territory, contributing to community-led language projects, language curriculum development, and intergenerational teaching initiatives. Her research has explored bilingual education and the role of local language educators in shaping language futures, with a particular focus on Warlpiri language teaching.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Emma has experience working on language programs in Mongolia, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and the Russian Federation. She currently works as a project linguist for Batchelor Institute’s Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL) on a range of language documentation and resource development projects, supporting communities to record, share, and celebrate their linguistic and cultural knowledge, and is a lecturer of the Certificates in Learning and Teaching First Nations Languages.
