Project Linguist / Lecturer, Top End First Nations Languages, Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL)
As a project linguist, I bring together language analysis, community engagement, and pedagogy to support the learning and revitalisation of Australian First Nations languages. My work spans ESL/EAL teaching abroad, general and applied linguistics research, and on-ground language projects in the Northern Territory.
In the past, I have taught English as an additional language, worked as a linguist at another Top End language centre (ARDS), managing dictionary data, conducting field and studio recordings for Yolngu Radio, and supporting translation, transcription, and language mapping for Indigenous languages. Academically, I have lectured at Charles Darwin University, International College, teaching pre-master’s and foundation units in communication, ethics, cultural intelligence, and Australian studies, and worked as a Research Assistant at James Cook University, investigating kindness in women’s prisons, supporting project design, ethics applications, and grant writing.
Since 2024, I have been working as a Lecturer and Project Officer in Top End First Nations Languages at Batchelor Institute, delivering Certificate II/III in Learning an Australian First Nations Language and Certificate IV in Teaching an Australian First Nations Language with Tiwi, Batjamalh (Wadjiginy), Wogba (Dagoman), and Wubuy (Nunggubuyu) languages. Working as a Project Officer for the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL) in the Top End of the Northern Territory, we operate as the Language Centre for the Daly Region, maintaining and developing language resources, supporting First Nation leadership and decision-making, and participating in language awareness and advocacy. We also work on projects such as Batjamalh, Emmi and Mendhe, and in collaboration with Numbirindi Development Aboriginal Corporation (NDAC) on the Numbirindi Upskilling for our Language project.
Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Arts (General Linguistics) from the University of Adelaide and a Master of Applied Linguistics from the University of Melbourne. I am currently completing a PhD in Applied Linguistics, Literary Studies, and Creative Writing at Charles Darwin University.
